NC electives may be taken on-demand. On-demand courses are sometimes called self-paced or online courses.
For NC real estate licensees who want or need a convenient way to complete their 4-hour elective requirement, online continuing education can be the answer. If you have good Internet access, it is easy to enroll and complete your course.
You don't have to complete the course in one sitting--you can leave and return at will, as long as you finish the course within 30 days of enrollment. You may even be able to complete the course in fewer than four hours! No final exam is required. There are short periodic review quizzes or assignments, but they are easy and you have multiple times to correct any errors.
I serve not only as the provider and instructor for the course, I am also the administrator. That means your teacher and online school are accessible locally, unlike some providers who are out-of-state.
Brokers should try taking at least one elective on-demand to see if they like it. On-demand courses have advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages

- You don't have to travel to an online course.
- You can take the course in your pajamas on your laptop, phone, or tablet.
- You can take the course in small doses as long as you complete the class within 30 days of starting it (or by the June 10th deadline, whichever is first.)
- You don't have to be annoyed by the teacher or your fellow students.
- Comparable price
- Particularly when you factor in travel time and costs online courses are a good value.
- Comparable time
- Most online courses will take you four hours , but they could take you more or less time depending on a number of factors.
Disadvantages
- Quizzes
- There are periodic chapter/module quizzes which must be passed in order to move forward in the course.
- Loss of interaction
- You miss the opportunity of engaging with your instructor and asking questions.
- You miss the social opportunities of networking with colleagues
- Generic material
- While some online courses have NC-specific information, most do not. My courses are NC-specific.
- Technology
- If you technology is slow or outdated or you are slow or outdated, online courses can be very frustrating to finish.

Some other FAQs
Must I complete the online course in one sitting, or can I log off and come back to it later?
The online courses "remember" where you left off, so you can return to that section at a later time. Even if you get disconnected from your online service (e.g., you step away from your computer for an extended period of time), the online courses will be bookmarked for your return. The next time you enter your course, you will return to the lesson you were most recently working on. Check the progress bar to see what you have to complete next.
You may be able to complete the course in less than four hours. For the advanced courses, it may take longer than four hours to complete all of the requirements of the courses. You will still receive credit for taking a four-hour elective.
Is there a final exam?
No, not for North Carolina students. However, there are chapter quizzes and assignments which you must complete with 70% proficiency. You will be given many opportunities to reach 70%.
Does my enrollment expire after a certain period of time?
You are able to enroll in an online course at any time from July 1 to June 10 of the following year.
Generally, you must finish the course with 30 days of starting it. However, if you are trying to earn elective credit to renew a North Carolina real estate license, you must enroll no later than June 10 and finish by midnight.
If you take more than one elective course, you may be eligible to have the second course apply to the following year's elective credit.

What is the refund policy?
There will be an opportunity in the first section of the course to indicate you do not want to complete the course and would like a refund. But once you go past the introductory material, there are no refunds for the course.
How do I pay for the course?
You may pay with a major credit card on line.
The site is secure. Pease provide your name and license number as they appear on your license card.
How do I obtain CE credit for completing the course?
Deborah Long will provide you with a certificate for your files. Do not send this certificate to the Commission. Deborah will send a confirmation of course completion to the NCREC.

I develop my own on-demand courses (DebbieTheTeacher) using the Talent Learning Management System (Talent LMS).
You can do your courses on a laptop or other device although completing this course on your phone is not recommended because of the small screen size.
